Capsule Geology

The Hollywood area is underlain by the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation, Hazelton Group. This is a northwest trending belt of folded (andesitic) volcanic rocks, which contains a thick sedimentary sequence infolded along a synclinal axis. This group is bounded on the west by the Coast Crystalline Complex and on the east by the Bowser Basin.

The host rocks are the Unuk River Formation in contact with the Lower Jurassic Texas Creek Batholith. The Texas Creek Batholith is a coarse-grained hornblende granodiorite with porphyrytic phases and offshoot dikes. To the immediate north is an east-west trending sedimentary and volcanic package consisting of black argillites and andesitic pyroclastics. The volcanics and argillites have been intruded by the Early Jurassic Texas Creek Plutonic Suite and Tertiary dikes.

It has been reported (Minister of Mines Annual Report, 1923) that 61 metres of tunnel was driven in 1923 and that high silver values were found on the surface at the contact with the argillite and intrusive rock. However, neither the adit or significant silver mineralization could be found by subsequent investigations. Only a small pit was located on the hillside containing minor pyrite, galena and malachite associated with quartz pods and veins.

Work History

It is not known when the Hollywood Nos. 1-8 claims were located. Cronholm-Bartholf Mines, Limited was formed in December 1922 to develop the property. Over 61 metres of tunnel was reported driven in the summer of 1923. In 1924 the company name was changed to Hollywood Mines, Limited. The Hollywood claims 1-11 inclusive (Lots 4485-4495) were Crown-granted in 1925. Further work was reported on the property during 1925.

In 1980, geological mapping on the Hollywood 1-11 claims by U. Kretchmar on behalf of Houston International Minerals Corp indicated that the property occupies a pendent of Hazelton siltstone and argillite overlying Texas Creek granodiorite. However, neither the mineralization nor the tunnel was found.

In 1983, Esso Minerals Canada Limited explored the Hollywood claims. Reconnaissance prospecting was completed over the entire claim area. The argillite and tuff contain between 5 and 10 per cent disseminated pyrite They weather medium brown to almost black which resulted in the entire rock package to appear as a large gossan zone. A 1.5 metres long adit was located at the volcanic intrusive contact. Quartz vein material containing large euhedral pyrite was found only in the nearby muck pile. Esso reported that a great deal of time was spent trying to locate the 61-metre adit which is mentioned in the BC Minister of Mines Annual Report 1923. It was not found. Esso reports that in an area such as this it should have been very easy to locate.

In 1988, Tri Gold Industries collected total of 16 rock samples, only one was taken in situ. An opening which could be an adit portal was seen in a cliff face near the contact in siliceous argillite, near the centre of the property. It was not possible to reach this feature safely without ropes.

In 2012, Eilat Resources Inc completed an airborne magnetic survey on their Summit Lake property. The survey, carried out, covered a total of 332.5-line kilometres. It was flown at 150 metre line spacing in a north-south flight direction.

In 2016, Triangle Exploration Limited (optionee from Eilat Explorations) completed a 566-kilometre airborne magnetic and radiometric survey which extends east, north and south from the eastern shore of Summit Lake to the eastern boundary of Eilat Exploration's 2012 airborne survey. The 2016 survey is a continuation of the airborne survey flown for Eilat Exploration in 2012 (Assessment Report 33511). Data collected from the 2016 Summit Lake survey block were merged with data collected in 2012 (Assessment Report 36318). The combined data covers 10 mineral occurrences documented in MINFILE: Scottie Gold (104B 034), St. Eugene (104B 036), Scottie North (104B 074), Blueberry (104B 133), Hicks (104B 139), Summit 5 (104B 436), Summit Gossan (104B 648), Summit Nunatak (104B 649), Glacier Edge (104B 650).

During 2018 through 2020, Scottie Resources Corp. completed programs of rock and auger (tailings) sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and diamond drilling on the Scottie Gold property.

Refer to Summit Gossan (104B 648), for related details of the area.
